WGN TV Appearance, Ideas for Wedding Gift Registry

I was so excited to get asked to be on the WGN TV Channel 9 news at 5pm last night. Lourdes Duarte and I got to speak about less traditional wedding registry items.

Royal Wedding Week is upon us and we are talking all things Royal Wedding this week on the blog. Kate and William have created the Royal Wedding Charitable Gift Fund and selected twenty-six charities and causes that they support. They have encouraged guests to consider donating to these funds in lieu of wedding gifts. I see this as a trend increasing in popularity with many couples suggesting to their guests to consider donating to charities instead of getting them the traditional china, silverware and pots and pans. The I Do Foundation makes this possible for brides and grooms to easily set up a charity wedding registry. You can select one charity or many that you care about and let your guests select which charity they will give to or they can give to all of your selected causes. Or wedding couples can have a percentage of their traditional gift registry items be donated (in some cases up to 5%) with select store partners like Target and Macy’s.

This is a wonderful way for couples to support and give back to the causes they resonate with them and allows their guests to chose if they will donate to a selected charity or go the traditional route and purchase a gift for them with some proceeds going to charity.

This week we will look at some other less traditional registry ideas that I covered in the news segment.
