Mint Julep for your Kentucky Derby Party

image asset

It is May, and along with May flowers, May brings the running of the Kentucky Derby. What an exciting time of the year to don a big hat and head to Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. With the derby brings the thoughts of Mint Juleps to mind and what better place to find THE best mint julep recipe but on the Kentucky Derby Website.

Recipe: 2 cups sugar, 2 cups water, springs of fresh mine and Early Times Kentucky Whisky (or your favorite Kentucky Bourbon or Whisky. Mine is Woodford Reserve)

Directions: Make a simple syrup by boiling sugar and water together for five minutes. Cool and place in a covered container with six or eight sprigs of fresh mint, then refrigerate overnight. Make one julep at a time by filling a julep cup with crushed ice, adding one tablespoon mint syrup and two ounces of Early Times Kentucky Whisky. Stir rapidly with a spoon to frost the outside of the cup. Garnish with a sprig of fresh mint. Shake and serve in a traditional mint julep cup! Would be perfect for a welcome drink at your May wedding, engagement party or bridal shower!

And don’t forget to bet on the grey horse! That is my old trick :)!
