The 8 Top Things to Know about Wedding Save the Dates
Many couple chose to send out a Save the Date to their wedding guests once their date is set and their venues confirmed. Here are some pointers and tips when sending out save the dates to your wedding guests.
Timing For Save the Dates
Sending out save the dates 6 months to 9 months in advance is recommended. I always say the 8-9 months out for a destination wedding. This will give your guests plenty of time to place this on their calendar and hold your wedding date for the year. This will also give them ample time to request any vacation days that may be needed for your wedding and research travel and flight options to the city you are getting married.
What to Include on a Save the Date
1. Well, the date of your wedding, course!
2. If guests will be invited to two or more events it is okay to say “Save the Dates” so they are aware there will be multiple days of events.
3. Your wedding website. This can also have your wedding event details and timing, travel information, fun things to do in the area and also any hotel recommendations.
4. Information about hotel blocks you have set up for your guests with the phone number or website link. Make sure to advise them on the “book by” date so they get your discounted wedding room block rate. If this is on your wedding website you do not have to list them but I like to put both in the save the date and on the wedding website.
5. Even though you are not asking guests to RSVP to the save the date, I think it is a good idea to include your email address for if they have any questions.
6. Many people will include a photo of the two of them. This is always nice to incorporate into the design of your save the date as many family and friends may not have yet met your spouse-to-be and you can share a cute picture of the two of you.
7. When addressing make sure to include “and guest” if they will be invited with a guest so they can plan ahead. It is a good idea to be clear from the beginning about who is invited to the wedding.
8. Return address. You may have guests that send you an engagement present so always include your return address on the back of the envelope that you mail.
Formal Invitation to Follow
I always recommend and think it is a good idea on the save the date to also place, “Formal Invitation to Follow” so they are aware a more detailed invitation will be coming in the mail.
